Re: Yet another new build thread...
I like how both of the spec images in our sigs are outdated :thumb: I'm going to build a new PC likely from sales on Black Friday. Was going to wait until a Micro Center opened in 2025, but will take the stated goal of tariffs against China at face value and build now before all the prices skyrocket...

I see this but even the fix they talk about doesn't work with 3.3.10 lol

Updated to phpBB 3.3.x
This appears to have fixed the ability to make new posts!
Seems like one thing is broken though.. the breadcrumb navigation is blank:

Not sure what's wrong, maybe a problem with the theme. TBD.

Re: Yet another new build thread...
Yo! It has indeed been a while. I see the broken UI too, interesting... will look into it. Shouldn't you be getting 27-30" monitors in 2023? :P I think the tie breaker with Intel vs AMD right now is that Intel uses wayyy more power (and more heat) to do the same kind of performance as AMD, but ...

Re: Yet another new build thread...
I get the itch to build a PC too, and fwiw there are other outlets to scratch that itch! Like build a NAS/Server :D That was something I did to give the itch a scratch back in December. You could try at least looking into upgrading your 1700X. I got curious about your mobo and if its the one mention...

Re: Yet another new build thread...
If it's fast enough, it's fast enough lul. A 1700X should be plenty for normal use and it's not even that much slower than the 3600 I have right now: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-1700X-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-3600/2969vs3481 I think performance these days on desktops have more than met th...

Re: Yet another new build thread...
haha, this is a horrible time due to the shortages.. You'd probably ideally want something like a Ryzen 5700X, RTX 3080, and a Samsung 980 Pro, I imagine. The near-future will turn awkward since there will be a transition period to DDR5... where the rule of thumb there is it'll be a couple years bef...

Re: Merry Christmas!
Ah interesting, do you think you got it through work or something? I kinda want it for the theoretical immunity afterward but I guess its a roll of the dice for how bad the symptoms are.

Re: Inquiries
Ah I hadn't heard of DB wire before but that makes sense. I also ended up learning about plenum while shopping for CAT 6A cables earlier this year.. opted to not bother with them despite planning to run them in my attic and crawl space (we don't have basements here..). Which brand do you personally ...
Re: Inquiries
Congrats on the baby! Didn't know you had a first either! I've bought a house and moved, now working from home here instead. Was so sure the whole moving process and having contractors come fix stuff up would result in me getting the virus, but I guess it worked out. Fortunately, masks are more ubiq...
Re: Inquiries
Speaking of CCTV, I intend to start to wire up the house myself with ethernet cables to run PoE cameras at some point

Re: Inquiries
Oh interesting, in CA there are no construction projects allowed, so all the new buildings are paused in whatever skeleton state they are in. No remodeling of houses or anything either. However, things like installing/fixing internet and other utilities are considered essential and still allowed. I ...
