AMD sockets

#1 Post by Q12321 » Fri Aug 12, 2005 9:48 pm

Are the 64 bit sockets staying 939, or going 754?

754 is the low end socket with no dual channel memory support. it came out at the same time as 940, which is now just for Opterons and such, 939 is the current standard and it will probably get to have an Athlon FX-59 3GHz (theyre at 57) before all newer CPUs use Socket M2. AMD is also releasing Socket S1 and F, dunno probably mobile and server XD

So yeah... the end of 939 is within view, but dont let that get you down. sure everyone THINKS they want to upgrade CPU later on, but then they realize they would need to upgrade everything else to make it worth it. but then again at that point its not and u basicly made a new PC

Another problem, although this might be just me...

Why can't I find many fans/heatsinks for 939s? I found one, but it only goes up to 3000+?

I have a feeling that's just me...

why? AMD64s run very cool with their Cool & Quiet tech, at some points you dont even need the fan to be on. Stock is plentiful, if you want better cooling go for like sub zero stuff XD

but if u must:
