What heatsink would you guys recommend for a socket 939 FX-57 ( I want it to be an all copper one, I couldnt find a good Zalman like that ).

And since PB seems to be the authroity on heatsinks, and thermal paste and all that shit, any thing I should know do in partiuclar.

Another question, this new right im building with have two 10000RPM 74 GB raptor drives... I wana configure them in RAID but I dont know which mode is best, or how you would even do that.

Another question about setting the HDDs up that way, would they be seen as one drive???? I really dont know that much about it.

Is a 450w power supply goana be enough for this rig...

it will have

FX-57, Dual X850XT's configured in crossfire once I learn something about it, 2 GB DDR SDRAM, 2 X 74GB Raptor drives, 1x 7200 120GB HDD, Sound Blaster Augidy 2

So thats the bulk of it, think i need a 500 or even 550??

that isnt good enough??
that with the newest arctic silver, 5 or w/e that is now XD
what board are you using? im liking the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium. must be premium! passive 1337 bridge cooling! but apparently crossfire requires a board with an ATi bridge chip
500 sounds good.

And, the fan you would put on that would vary, depending on the person. e.g. Noisy good performing fan medium price, Really noisy great performing fan high price, Quiet decent performing fan medium price, Extremely quiet leet performing fan really high price, etc.

I would spread the paste with like the side of a credit card or something similar (library card FTW).

If you do decide to get the heatsink I linked, or any other Thermalright heatsink, they have PDF installation files for all of their heatsinks.

Here is a really good Arctic Silver 5 tutorial:

Don't know too much about raid as I can't do it... yet! But, I think the best one for that setup would be RAID 0 (or maybe 1? inono LOL). Here is a really good site which explains it simply:

You mean like, if you get two 250GB hard drives, and it shows one partition as 500GB? I think you can do that, but I don't know for sure. I'll let you know when my hard drive arrives. Partition Magic FTW.

O_O I think you should get a 500 to be safe, but 450 would probably work too.

Oh and, the fan PB linked, is a really nice Zalman fan. Extremely quiet too, and not TOO pricey.

"DO NOT REMOVE THE HEATSINK FROM THE CPU TO LOOK AT THE COMPOUND ONCE YOU HAVE MOUNTED THE HEATSINK. This will introduce air into the interface layer and require a fresh application."

2005,

Since you are getting Rapters, RAID 0 would be be the best. In RAID 0, the two hard drives are seen as one HD. Files will be split on both hard drives, so in a sense, you get double the speed, although I'm not sure if you do. It's fast as fuck though.

RAID 1 would be seen as one hard drive as well, as far as I know, but only 74GB instead of the two combined. This is because the other HD is doing an exact replica of the first. You only get use out of one, but you always have a backup.

You are getting rapters, you are using RAID 0. Only teh n00bs wouldn't.
Here to impress.

it being faster is only noticable if the data you're accessing are on either of both drives. or itd have to be like ever other MB of data is on the second hard drive.. it should do that, right?

Asus A8N SLI Deluxe nVidia Socket 939 Motherboard, is the motherboard I was looking at... 164$ at tigerdirect. So whats the skinny on the situation here. I dont know if I wana go dual 7800 GT's. But on tigerdirect I can get s X850XT's for 700$. I need to learn alot more about crossfire, SLI and that raid deal which I think i understand better.

So again im open to mobo/vid card suggestions but I think i want those 2 X850XT's.

well all mobos say PC3200 as standard (my god.. its been over 2 years like that.) PC4000 seems like a popular speed for enthusiasts... basicly stick with
PQI
OCZ
Kingston
Mushkin
Corsair
Crucial
GeIL (seems ok now, if any of you remember, me + them + NF2 = bad experience)

Crucial Ballistix, OCZ Plt. Rev2, Kingston HyperX LL, Corsair XL Pro, Mushkin Level II V2

All hella leet. All PC3200, and are like really overclockable. Highest overclock on the benchmark site I looked at, they ALL surpassed PC4000 speeds, and, haven't really looked into the others, but you can get the Crucial Ballistix 1gb (512x2) for like $140 US, which is like half the price of PC4000.

Personally I'd go with OCZ Rev 2 or Crucial Ballistix <cackle>

hm but isnt the problem with RAID 0 that if one drive dies, all you have left is a drive with half of everything, useless.
