WTF is this...

#1 Post by Q12321 » Mon Aug 21, 2006 2:49 pm

Okay, my Windows install was/is fucked, so here's what I did:

I got an IDE hard drive (thanks 2005), hooked that monster up, and installed the x64 version of Windows XP Pro. I went to do this just to download the regular 32 bit version of windows and to get everything off of my other hard drives so I could reformat.

So, Windows installs fine, so I go to install my RAID drivers (my other two drives are set up in RAID 0, SATA). Windows sees my drives fine and all, but says they're inaccessable, they're using 0 bytes out of 0 bytes of total space, and says the file system is RAW. Windows didn't fucking format my drives, did it?!? Seriously, this isn't a joke, I had a FUCK load of important shit.

sorry no experience with RAID here :[ i specifically refused to RAID my two seagates because of these complications..
For computers, buying cheaply and often will only leave you constantly in a world of shit.

This is seriously......bad.

What I'm going to do is wait until the Windows iso is done, burn it, and try to run recovery mode or whatever-the-hell-it's-called on my RAID setup. We'll see how that goes.

But yes, I'm not going RAID again. And if I do...I'll do RAID 1 but leave the second drive out of the computer most of the time. Maybe once a week I'll stick it back in, the OS will say the RAID is fucked up and it will fix itself, giving me a carbon-copy backup in no time.

I would post on some other fourms, like Tomshardware, [H]ard | Fourm, or Anandtech to see whats up.

Between the three of them you should have no problems.

No experience with raid

Well shit

RAID array was corrupted. I'm not spending the money or the time to try to repair it. I just deleted it instead.

I have backups from about 1-1.5 months ago, a little bit before my motherboard fucked itself. So I'm not too far behind. Sadly, all the recordings and stuff I've been working on are gone.

Sucks arse man, shows you how shitty RAID is.

I would never use it unless you have another big like 300+ GB SATA all by itself for storage.

Yeah, I'm not using it as of now. Just two 150GB drives.

Nice thing is that my dad wants to buy me an external hard drive so I can keep things backed up often. =)

1337ness,

So I guess send the 120 back on her way whenever you can, and fuck raid forever.

The local pawn shop had a 250GB WD mybook for 120$ which isnt bad. But I hate drives that require external power sources.

dude im in the same boat as u with the recordings and tons of wavs and shit

do the back up manually its better, and i have this prog it can read two folders (and subfolders) and tell u which files are missing or updated from which folder and u can jus tell it where to copy which files, do it 1 a week or whatev, easy as shit
