Networking
I'm clueless on how to make this work, so I'll ask here.
My friend has a laptop that is connected to the internet through a neighbor's WiFi connection. Let's say I wanted to connect my desktop to my friends laptop, so he could get the WiFi connection, and we could both use it. How do we do this? Note we don't have a switch/hub, but I think my mobo can be used as one...
Second question, how do I hook up my friend's laptop to my desktop to allow both to see eachother and their files? Basically a file sharing connection. I've tried so hard, but never got it to work. Both machines are Windows XP

Here to impress.
Why don't you get a wieless card for the desktop.
This is only my opinion, I could be wrong.

without a switch/hub/router you need a crossover cable (not rollover), they're typically orange in color, so look for that in the store.
I dont remember much of it anymore, but you need to set your desktop in Setup home or small office network to w/e option says it gets its internet from another PC..
then do something similar but opposite on the laptop

For computers, buying cheaply and often will only leave you constantly in a world of shit.

You forgot a step, Open my computer. select Tools. select Map Network Drive. click Browse. select MSHOME and select the computer from that [+] drop list.2005 wrote:Simple
Set Router up
Hook up both computers to the router via ethernet cables
Control Panel / Network Connections / Setup a
home or small office network (on the left hand side under network task)
Use common sense and assign each computer the exact same workgroup name like MSHOME
