Just cuz he's a english teacher or w/e doesn't mean that he knows everything related... it's an impossibility. A person can know a lot, just not everything... not even for a specific field.

I'm not an English teacher and I never was. I also never claimed to know everything on any subject.

Some words, like oxymoron, intrigue me and I want to know as much as I can about them. Including their origins. You can blame the school system for that. They had dictionaries right there in the classroom and had the audacity to tell students to look up any word they didn't understand. Can you believe that?!

In other words (pun intended), it's the study of the origin of words.
