What a setup! That's a lot of dough, but that will be one beefy machine.

Almost all of those prices have gone up on newegg, the CPU alone went up $100
but I think by the time you build you'll be able to easily shave off 10-15% or more
from that preliminary cost estimate. Especially if you still live around a Fry's or
micro center.

The one Microcenter in Northern California closed down a few years ago Next closest one is in LA. Not gonna do that haha.

I'm still looking around for a motherboard, because I remembered I want IPMI (like I have in my server, so useful). Quick search gets me this https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/X99WSIPMI/ but it doesn't look to actually be for sale anywhere...

Also would be nice if the video card was one of the waterblock models, which I see one model on Newegg so far:

I would, in all seriousness, if my motherboard wasn't so picky
about ram. It refuses to work with more than 3 dimms of the
exact same brand / spec.... I did buy 6gb more from ebay and
while each set of 3 sticks works great alone... they won't work
together.

I'm thinking I'll seriously wait it out until we see what Zen really
has to offer.


Question about the 1080 Ti.... why not just go with the regular
GTX 1080 (or even 1070) ??

The GTX 1080 Ti is supposed to be a Titan X (Pascal) but cheaper (fewer CUDA cores). That said, Titan X gets this performance:

Check out the 4K benchmarks for this and other games. You'll see that a Titan X performance is the minimum to SOMETIMES pull off 60fps at 4K.

That's too close for comfort. SLI to get comfortable headroom.

They didn't announce the 1080 Ti at CES Now I'm not sure if I should just get the regular 1080...

Also, I'm thinking thinking the additional RAM you got was bought so much later that they had changed their supplier of the chip and they aren't actually the same anymore.

I have been thinking of upgrading my video card. Only thing I do that requires decent graphics is Diablo III. Any recomendations? around the $200 or less would be best, but if I should I might go higher.

As far as video cards go, you don't need anything crazy. My old
Radeon HD 5870 does just fine at 1080p, anything similar would
be plenty. That 1060 card your looking at for example, would be
more than enough. For Diablo 3 that is

That's a good possibility. I could pop for 3x4GB sticks... there's an idea.


But do I REALLY wanna hang on to a system that is headed for 7 years old?!?!?!

Haven't played D3 online yet. Necro has been a character choice since I started a few months ago. I have a Monk, Wizard, Demon Hunter all at level 70 and I started a Crusader for season 9 (paragon level 108). Not sure how my upload speeds will do with opening a game to the public.

Geforce Experience told me my video card isn't capable of max settings but I did anyway and it seems to work fine. The cooler fan is starting to make noise so I start my research now before it craps out and everything else gets put on hold. Now that I may have a bit more money to spend I am just thinking ahead with my card choice.
