Except when you have to provide a certain amount of steps used to arrive at the answer. My geometry teacher and I used to go around about that shit. If I could prove my answer in 6 steps, why did I have to show 11 steps? The bitch!!

By my standards, yes. But because I could do the math faster in my head than she could write it on the board, it pissed her off. Consequently, it slowed me down trying to show her how to properly solve the equation. That's when I learned to hate math classes. I still love math, but can't stand the teachers who are so narrow minded as to not accept a new way.

to accept a new way is to be less lazy. for them to do a new way would mean they can no longer follow the teacher's book entirely for their planned assignments.

Well the reason so many of them like those big long proofs is because they can narrow out your mistake in problems. If they didn't have you go 100% past what you need to solve the problem then they'd have to assume what your mistake was if it couldnt be found int what you provided on paper. One of our teachers was like that and she was even so simple minded that any formula she didnt know of didnt work. My friends mom is a math prof at a college and she gave us a whole bunch of formulas for algebra. They worked every single time and my friend and I were done with every test and assingment in half the time we were alloted. She accused us of cheating, we showed her these formulas that wouldn't work and demonstraited them for her. It was like educating a 2x4
