The 360 didn't do that hot its first few months either, for 8 of the first 9 the PS2 outsold the 360 which I think speaks volumes.

Wanna guess why the PS2 outsold the 360 for 8 out of 9 months? Games.... good games. And the 360 probably is just now getting what I would consider "good" games.

The PS3 is a year behind so to speak, and the only thing that hurts it is that it doesn't have much to show for the year. If they could have produced those Blu-Ray diodes more effectively then perhaps they could have been right on par.

Don't forget that with the cheap 360 you get no hard drive.

Oh no, XBOX 360 has an HDMI version, now my next console choice is less clear. ><

It does have an HDMI version in the works, but I'm still not sure how that would sway your decision away from PS3.

I just need something that can be modified to be a full fledged media center, the 360 doesnt appear to have been hacked yet but I don't expect to be getting one that soon anyway. Seeing both the 360 and PS3 as capable media centers, basically the only deciding factor that remains is the output connection. My tv has two component inputs and I intend to use them for the Wii and future HD DVR (because they're gay and I want one of my two HDMI ports to be free for my HD Camcorder shipping right now) The only choice for my next console is an HDMI connection, and until April, only PS3 has it. The PS3 no longer has the advantage; though it is still the better deal, that is not enough to make the choice clear with price drops probable by the time I actually buy one.

Well consider the PS3's a blu-ray player. You already know it has a big built in HDD and the more expensive one comes with wifi and a card reader.

The PS3 is also on its way to being modded, several things have been discovered in the last few days and of course there is still also the paradox release thats supposed to happen soon. Speculation is that they have a working iso loader to play blu-ray images of PS3 games (and movies) off the hard drive. Even if that doesn't interest you, the fact they can run code not signed by sony is a big step in seeing things like XBMC.

Also the 360 is louder and I know your picky about noise levels.

Bluray drive already included is appealing, but with the 'war' between Bluray and HD-DVD, I don't know... I'll be stuck with half the available movies either way so bluray isn't much of a plus for me. Hopefully though, they'll be able to get the PS3 working with the 360 HD-DVD drive. :D

Much like with XBMC right now, I will be streaming my media from my computers through an ethernet cable that I've already ran to the TV area. So the HDD size doesn't matter and neither does WiFi, don't know what I would use the card reader for.. o.O

I remember you telling me that the PS3 requires firmware flashes to enable further use of the console, I don't think the 360 has that annoyance, does it? Workarounds or not, that would still be a bother because if Sony cares at all (they probably do), they'll try to render current workarounds obsolete so I'll have to keep up to date with new methods. *sigh*

The 360 doesn't seem louder, or if it is, the PS3 isn't far behind anyway.
