2.6 vs 2.8 is a big deal when you want to overclock above 2.8, its not like you start at a humble 1.8GHz this time as well.

Yup I went the extra mile back then for the A8N-SLI Premium or A8N32-SLI Deluxe specifically because they were about the only boards to have the reliability of being passively cooled to begin with. Small fans suck and its almost a guarantee that they fail.

Maybe the Thermaltake Frio or Prolimatech Megahalems? Both of them being superior to my Silenx IXC-120HA2. The Silenx absolutely rapes the Freezer 7 Pro I upgraded from. I'm talking about seeing the Silenx fan at lowest speed getting the about the same temps as the Freezer 7 Pro with maxed fan speed (which is honestly way too damn loud). I can even keep the Silenx at its lowest fan speed 24/7 because even during full load the temperature never hits 60C. The Freezer 7 Pro on the other hand would have to throttle up to max speed and STILL hit 60C at my current OC. That is why I have a very low regard for the Freezer 64/7 Pro.. I wanted to upgrade from the Freezer 7 Pro for months but couldn't justify the upgrade cost (until Fry's had the Silenx for $15), but YOU don't need to run into that issue, you can get a much better cooler from the start and not regret.

Ok so I have decided to ditch the blu-ray drive and go with a better power supply and better cooling.

I think I'm going with the thermaltake frio as the other thing seems way too big.. I don't want my upper PCI-E slot blocked by the bigger cooler as I plan on adding another 5850 next summer. I don't plan on pushing my i7 to the max overclock.... at stock 2.8ghz is fast and if I can get 3.4 or 3.6 out of it without upping the voltage then I really don't see a need to go any higher.

It's so weird seeing my Antec P180 all empty lol.

Im also really REALLY supprised at Starcraft 2 coming out on July 27th... they could easily ride it out longer. I think this means no Diablo 3 until at least summer 2011.

Yeah and with the PS3 I don't really feel the need for a blu-ray drive just yet.

You probably can orient the heatsink to blow upwards instead and therefore shouldn't block any slots. Heat rises anyway and its still pointing directly at an exhaust in your P180. Then again, the Megahalems costs more than the Frio and doesn't come with a fan.

its not quite the motherboard I wanted.... but then again the only thing its really missing is USB 3.0 support which can be added later on.

I went with that one single 5870 because it was only $380 and it came with a free copy of modern warfare 2. I can ebay the game and make 30 bucks or I can just keep it and play which is what I'll probably do. I know in *some* instances it will be outperformed by two 5830's in crossfire but in some games crossfire doesn't scale that well at all.

In the future I'll be adding another 5870.. probably next summer time.

No aftermarket cooler... it will be another down the road upgrade. This computer won't be "slow" by any means for a while to come yet.

I would have rather have had the i7 920.... but luck would have it they sold out the DAY before I ordered T_T

I really didn't like the limited PCI-E lanes on the motherboard

Yet, in the process of increasing your PCI-Express lane count, you decreased your lane count demand by 16(ish).

But for good reason... now the extra lanes are there for when games are actually written to scale well with multiple GPU's. Well when more games become better scalers anyways.

Funny thing here is that game graphics ARE super scalar considering just how many Stream processors a GPU has, yet when divided among multiple GPUs it somehow doesn't work out the same way.
