Socket AM2

Is this socket staying around for a while? 939 kinda died out, I noticed, so I think I might be best off just getting a new motherboard.

Another thing, doesn't the nForce 600 series support AM2 sockets? I'm surprised that Asus doesn't have one out, at least not one I can find. =\

AM2 won't last very long, AM3 is scheduled to replace it in late this year or in 2008. AM3 will support both DDR2 and DDR3 (they use the same slot) so it is possible to buy an AM2 and DDR2 now and not need to buy DDR2 when you get AM3.

There are only two flavors of the 600 series and both are only for socket 775. No biggie, the Core 2 Duos are the things to get right now anyway, and since getting an AM2 right now would mean needing to get a new CPU, RAM, and motherboard, you'd have to be pretty damn stupid to not go Intel right now.. unless you are unaware of how much conroe is pwning everything AMD has?

AM2 was just about the dumbest thing AMD has done in a while. As far as an answer to conroe it was at best a really really poor one and from a theoretical standpoint it was a step backwards if anything.

Go Core 2... socket 939 was out a good while before I ever built my machine. 2+ years if I remember correctly and still today my Opteron 165 gets me by with no issues.

If your willing to learn to OC, an E6300 would easily last you 2 years.

LOL I was just looking at that benchmark. Its interesting because it benchmarks everything at 2.4GHz... unique, but perfect for showing the efficiencies of the different processors. Undeniable Core 2 Victory.
