I need QoS but must keep the DSL's included modem/router

Through foolish assumption, I expected the included 2Wire modem/router included with my DSL would have Quality of Service. Alas, it does not. I can't stand the lag I get when I have P2Ps running. Things would be simple if I could just get a QoS router and connect it to my modem... but I have a modem/router hybrid so I am not sure... If I get a QoS router and not use its WAN port (can't), will I be able to still use its QoS feature?
