OK, my DVD burner seems to be on the fritz. I put in 2 different dvd's and it doesn't recognize anything had been inserted into the drive anymore. What are some recommendations as to a replacement. You can see from my sig what kind I currently have and its a few years old. Just keep in mind I can not afford a bluray drive of any kind. looking to spend up to about $50 tops and it needs to be S-ATA.

I updated the firmware and it seems to be working now. For how long, who knows. I would like to still hear recommendations.

Hmm. I don't know any other recommendations, and I totally forgot about firmware updating! My dad's drive has been failing to read many DVDs and a firmware update could do wonders but damn it I'm back at college now. :[
How a firmware update fixes degradation of a drive, I have no idea. Great that its working for you!

I have no idea also other then coincidence. This is why I was asking for suggestions anyway. How long do these drives bought a few years ago supposed to last?
