Newegg had

on sale for $47 AR so I jumped on it.

Will try CF later with my other 4850 but will have to do a dual PSU setup as I don't believe my 430W can do CF very safely.

I don't think it can handle two cards... your setup has to be pushing 430W right now as it is.... that card will need another 50W +

Actually, my setup for that desktop got to 300W full load, and when I finally tried CF it still only went up to about 370W full load.

EDIT: Actually I think it was more like 395W, getting mixed up with testing the new desktop.

It's so funny how far off most people are in thinking about what a computer needs power supply wise.

I mean common... a new performance setup running on a <500 watt PSU?

I would have never believed it myself really

When I asked the guys that gave answers for "What PSU do I need?" threads on Hardforum, they seemed to know that it was overkill. Higher power PSUs were chosen so the user would not stress out the PSU hardware. Plus, it keeps the PSU fan from kicking up too high under the system's load.

The joke here is, my Nexus VALUE 430 under 400W load is still quieter than my (ALSO RATED AS QUIET BY SILENT PC REVIEW) Corsair CMPSU-450VX at idle and is rated by Silent PC Review to be their quietest fanned PSU reviewed at the time.
