ASUS Z71V

#1 Post by palmboy5 » Thu Dec 08, 2005 9:55 am

Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz 2MB L2 Dothan
1GB DDR2 PC4200
nVidia GeForce Go 6600 128MB
60GB 5400RPM HD
8x DVD Dual: 8x/4x2.4x2 DVD-RW/16x10x24 CD-RW (yeah im too lazy to make sense of it and.. "translate")
thats swappable with a second battery i got
15.4" (1680x1050)
each battery gives about 4 hours
6.5 lbs

yeah i think thats about it, i just thought posting specs would be a good idea

anyway, its so BIG.... lol when its closed it looks huge, opened its all good i guess but DAMN... also for some reason Arial font got deleted, meaning just about EVERY PROGRAM was using a different, unfamiliar font. i had no idea so many programs used Arial, wow. i wasted so much time trying to reinstall all the fonts before i realized that XD

after school i shall check out its gaming capabilities. its gonna perform better than the system in my sig, i bet you.

no both the extra pipes and vertex are damaged. and no it didnt get served, extra pipes only means more bandwidth avaliable. except my CPU is running pretty damn slow... with an FSB of 166MHz. the system is a complete bottleneck to the video card, and gaming performance as a whole should not and cannot be judge simply by what the video card is.

performance vs my desktop (nilla 6800):

eh, a little bit lower fps, the thing is how on the laptop itll SKIP every several seconds.

ok so i finally went around and opened it up, total of all images is 16MB, not too much right? if i didnt resize them it would have been close to 40MB

http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdoverall2.jpg
yeah... overall pics, look at all the empty space O_O and look how far the RAM is from the CPU....

http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdcpu1.jpg
the CPU and its cooler, look at that heatpipe :O i like this pic the most

http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdgeforce1.jpg
http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdgeforce2.jpg
(side view, notice how the memory chips arent cooled)
the video card and its cooler. i think its safe to conclude that the GPU creates more heat than the Pentium M, this fan is always on and the air is always hotter.

http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdram1.jpg
one of the 512MB RAM sticks, dunno where the other one is :P

http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdwificard1.jpg
the wificard, the antenna wire apparently goes out to an antenna in the screen

http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdbelowwifi1.jpg
under the wifi card, NO idea what that chip is, if anyone can tell me ill give you a virtual cookie.

http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdemptyspace1.jpg
this is like such a huge embarrassing empty space they decided to cage it up to make it look useful...

so yeah they could put hella more stuff into this case, its virtually hollow

EDIT: oh yeah 2005, the laptop does perform better in BF2.

uh, it is the model that is the thread title.

it could very well have been built, ASUS designed it to be a barebone, meaning you buy the barebone, then get the CPU, RAM, etc separately yourself, thats why it was so easy to expose all the main components, and thats why the screws arent special. i didnt build it though, just chose the parts and let agearnotebooks.com do it

EDIT:
http://www.mylilsite.net/images/z71v/sdhd1.jpg
yeah, the HD, forgot about it

which do you think takes more electricity:

800-1600MHz 0-50% typical CPU usage
or
400MHz 10-100% typical CPU usage
