A 170 @ 2.7 ???

I so hope to god I get a good stepping and week on my 165. People have been getting 2.8-3.0 on air or slight air upgrades. If I get a good stepping/week I can get 3.0ghz on each core with that freezer 64 PRO and pwn them all... Nutcase would be the only competition

psh i dont believe stepping matters.. its just wishful thinking, just like "burning in". each time they make a stepping it still has chips that can only hit lower speeds, which are the unfortunate ones to be made into like.. A64 3000+ n' shit.. every week, every stepping has its good and bad chips, no one group is unified as a "good" stepping

As a whole people have reported better OC's on certaint steppings of the 165 by 200mhz on average.

so what stepping are they? i do remember something like CABNE vs CAB2E or something, the one with '2' being worse.. but from what i read its due to AMD implementing some limitations or something o.O oh well maybe there is a difference but not because of differentials in production quality

With the opterons... the CBBWE or CBBW1 are the on die mem controller revisions.

CBBWE being slightly less OCable compared to the CBBW1, but as we've already discussed.. Ill probably get a WE lmao.

lol at least that way you wont be able to OC it beyond mine >< once i get the freezer

I probably will... I should still be able to hit 2.7 stable and I dont think a 3800+ is going to hit that with anything short of phase change. And even if we both are at the same clocks, the opteron has double the on chip cache.

phase change??

Manchester core @ 2.7GHz with an XP-90, may be very very hot but then the 64 is better than 90..

72C is WAY to hot... anything over 50C would be too hot IMHO.

Preslers run 4.2ghz on air easily, the only thing holding them back being heat. Cooling with dry ice is what makes the 5.2ghz possible.

Disabling the L1 and L2 caches can get you 6.2ghz + on preslers
