Wholey crap... I might buy one just because...

My bro's computer is shit, and getting this CPU at this price is crazy.

for under 400$ I could have him a fairly new setup with this price cut.

I dont see AMD dropping Opteron prices, unless its to make them more competitive with woodcrest.

I dont really even know why the socketed a server style CPU with a consumer level socket lol. You would figure they would all be 940. Why would anyone buy an X2 when the optys OC like mad and have double the cache of the manchester modles.

But AM-2 is retarted, unless reverse hyper threading is a big a deal as they make it out to be.

im liking K8L.. lol reverse hyperthreading sounds very useful. but.. harder to do. that way typical software wont need to become multithreaded to use a multicore ^^

hell no. not with inflation.

Q, why dont you just OC the 3800+ to 2.4GHz? it will have the exact same performance since the 4600+ also has 512KB L2

He has temp issues me thinks, that or a bad temp sensor. But without the proper equipment to test I wouldnt make that call.

If I were to buy anything, it would be an opty 165 from monarch for 270$ and it will more then likely be a CCBBE 0610 which hit 3.0ghz per core

Eh, I've had temp problems. It was an airflow fuck up. It's better, but I can get it even cooler. I'm at 32C idle, 44C after playing CoD2 for an hour.

how was the airflow fucked up?

thats a pretty big jump in temps from idle to load. I have some of the worst cable management out there (but 3 120MM fans in my case) and my stock temps were like 26-27C idle to 33-34C load and now my temps are like 32-33 to 38-40C load (at 2.43ghz)
