Looking at a laptop?

Well you already know about the 37" 1080p LCD thats going to cost me $1,499 + $189 for a 3 year service plan.

Since I'll be getting a laptop (which is more the point of this thread then anything) I want a wireless router and a decent one but nothing crazy.

I was thinking a D-Link DI-634M 108G MIMO for around 70$

The router is nice because not only would the laptop have wireless, but I wont have to run a cable for the PS3 either.

The PS3 weighs in at around $635 after tax and Ill spend probably 150$ on two games.

I wanted a Sony stereo system, more specifically a Sony HT-DDW900 but that will have to wait until next january or feburary.

So far that puts the bill at about $2,550 which is okay. Ill have about $5500 the end of November and when its all said and done Ill have about 3K left. Ill still be working so Ill have another 3K or so made before I go to college so I'll be able to get a laptop no problem.

The thing is what kind of laptop should I get? Im not looking to spend any more then $1000 on it, becuase it will be outdated long before I get out of college no matter what. My mom has this thing too where through her work (H&R block) she can get me 10 or 15% off of an HP laptop so thats something to consider.

The main brands im considering are Sony, Dell and HP. Its atleast 6 months off before I buy this thing, but I like to see where things are at now and then compare as time goes by.

Its going to be for college and the main things I want are a smooth but semi powerfull computer with good battery life.

I wont be gameing on it at all.

Still would like 1GB of RAM and XP PRO if possible, Media Center is out of the question... I hate media center.

lol unless media center is the cheaper option, i mean you can completely ignore its existance if you want :P

bah, lol so many options, im guess you want.. a widescreen laptop with a core duo (or maybe core 2 duo), 1GB RAM, and integrated intel graphics... but there are so many of those >.>

what college u goin to? r u livin in a dorm/apt and if so whats the size of the room and desk cuz i can tell u this having gone to college for 2 years, most pple dont actually take their laptops to class or go out to the grassy areas and actually do PORTABLE stuff with a laptop, there is the occasional take it to a study group or the library but even then u can take books/print outs and paper to write... if u think u wont be taking advantage of the portability, then a desktop is better, u kno that

and also, hp dell and all those places have unadvertised student discounts, theyll ask u for ur student id number and ur campus and u can get a nice discount, of course u already have to have been issued an id # (n i dunno if it will work with ur moms thing or if its better or whatev)

I could carry it around with no trouble, but I cant see anyone running away with it faster then I can run without it so yea.

Screen size?? Id say atleast 15.4 but not sure if its worth it to go higher because of the battery life??

technically with a 17 or 19(GASP) incher, theres room for an even larger battery.. but im sure theres a point where the 'balance' gets fucked

i say 15.4 is good :P i saw those 17 inch laptops and its like "HOLY SHIT LOL IT HAS ROOM FOR A NUMBER PAD."
