ok so my comp is making some gay ass noise, its all high pitched

ill describe it as sumin buzzing or whirling (tho i dont want to say its def sumin spinning (hard disk) cuz it could be sumin else, i dont kno) and its also kinda phasing in and out

when i tap the side of my case it stops but then it comes back on its own after a few min

what do u think it is? is it bad? how to fix?

CD drive perhaps? All of the cd drives I've ever had are loud and obnoxious, but if I hit the case, they stop. Haha.

That would be the fan, if your hitting it and fixing the problem then the fan is becomeing disloged and moved to where it doesnt vibrate.

To test my theory, open the case and apply pressure to the plastic fan encasing on the edges on right in the center on the big plastic circle. If it stops then its your fans.

so i have this external hard drive that slides into my case and when i was tapping it, it was right next to where the drive was... so i took it out and there was no more noise

its not the cd/dvd drives for sure cuz im not using them

fans maybe, im gonna plug the drive back in and see if i get any more noise

Well if you slide the external drive into the case and you get noise then ofcourse it could be the drive.

The fan is one of the other prime suspects, now all you have to do is some detective work.

I wouldnt think so....

If you get anything on one of the platters of the hard drive you will get HDI interference and it will grind and wine but usually its a pretty unique sound.

Dust really wouldnt make a noise I dont think, unless it was caked on.
