Opteron 165

#1 Post by palmboy5 » Mon Oct 23, 2006 2:38 am

omg, ok ive been trying to get it from newegg for a couple weeks but its always out of stock, i just checked monarch and they have it for the same price ($170), and the OEM is ($150)

i want a good stepping, and i know the newegg ones will be good because they sell out like a few minutes after they recieve a new batch, so theyre all new. but since monarch is instock.. maybe they have older ones? should i order now? and OEM or retail? doesnt matter to me, i still have the stock for the X2 3800+

basically... i want to hurry, im going to wait until tomorrow morning or maybe later tomorrow, no longer. theres like no more time left, you can just FEEL the effects of a shrinking socket 939 production amount

nah dawg, you cant make generalzations like that

The local computer store wont buy anything from Western Digital because of how many problems he's had with them. Yet every computer in my house now and everyone I've owned had WD HDD's and of them all only one has failed on me. A 5400 RPM 40GB model... this 320 GB SATA has been working wonderfully.

ionno about him calling it generalizations, but dont say some brand is all good when you have only one thing from them.
I personally only had one HDD fail, a maxtor. fuck maxtor. there, a generalization, yet somehow reviews of their HDDs arent bad and seagate saw it fit to buy them out.

i've posted about my mobo in an attempt to RMA on their site lol
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id= ... uage=en-us

and 2005, as for your brand scoring system.. its flawed.
your DFI did nothing special as far as I know, it just worked. Just like many boards from many brands. so basically if youre going to make a scoreboard like that, itll look more like this:
Abit: 2
ASUS: 0
DFI: 2
Epox: 2
Gigabyte: 2
Etc: 2
everyone gets two points because two ASUS boards had problems? thats just stupid.

do this:
Abit: 0
ASUS: -2
DFI: 0
Epox: 0
Gigabyte: 0
Etc: 0

its not necessarily a bad experience, if they dont make it too difficult to RMA the board then ill let it slide, my ASUS laptop is still good, just the stupid HITACHI HDD in it is dead (really. the guy from the place i ordered picked it up today to replace it, i requested "anything other than Hitachi" and he said "Fujitsu", itll probably be an 80GB or 100GB instead of 60GB due to my 60 not being made anymore)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalization

You've made the generalization that ASUS is a solid product and that it must PB's doing that his failed. That boys and girls, is a generalization.

My DFI is one of if not THE BEST socket 939 overclockers on the market and if not for your boards ability to run dual 16X SLI then yours wouldn't even be considered equal. Which is here nor there due to the fact your card and even mine see's no benifit from 16X over 8X.

Both you and Q have had problems with a very similar board, which is alot further down the line then dragons so I dont know why he even brings it up... its not even the same socket.

There are such things as sarcasm and a sense of humor, ill try to make them more aparent in the future.

... they.. they... DELETED my thread..

EDIT:
or not? lol.
I chose my ASUS board because it has passive cooling and that it was the Flagship model of probably the largest motherboard maker in the world.
Granted, such a decision looks like a mistake, and that the DFI does seem like THE OCer's board, but let me ask you this... How much higher are the OCs on the DFI compared to anything else, when you are using air cooling? Think about that question a bit, are you really going to achieve 'teh 1337 OC' without sub-ambient cooling? On ANY motherboard? Also, as "THE BEST" OCer, did it save you from a bad stepping?

Didnt save me personally, but on the same hand im what you would call a very noob OC'er as are you and anyone else on this fourm.

Guys who know how to fully tweak out their ram down to the smallest settings are the ones who get that extra 100-200 mhz above the norm and mostly its on boards like mine.

Also my OC has been extremely stable, with zero heat issues what so ever. As I type this my processor idles at 30C and maxes at 39-41C under full load at 2.43ghz a full 643 mhz above stock and runs at operateable temps 800mhz past stock with safe v cores.
