Bandwidth Place 2

so i have a dvd thats like 8 gb and DVD Shrink wont help cuz it gets it down to about 6 gb and thats at 65% compression and it wont go any lower, DVD Decrypter is making a 8 gb iso file so i dont see the point in doing that if i can't burn anythin bigger than 4.7 or 4.8 gb whatever the number is

any idea how to get the file size down, i dont really mind if the compression is below 65% that doesnt really bother me, i just want to have the dvd backed up some how...

You can uncheck foreign languages that you wont need, including the captions and maybe trailers of other movies? special features you dislike?

i had to do this once, cut out quite a bit this way.

yeah i kno about that, i usually get rid of all the stuff except english but this time thers nothing i can uncheck cuz its a foriegn movie, foriegn audio and foreign subs, no other language options, no extras or bonuses or anythin like that

thats why im confused i cant get it lower than 6 gb which is weird, ill accept it being more compressed that just 65% but it wont let me

Don't do a full backup for one, only take the main movie.

Secondly don't take the 5.1 audio (or if you do, don't take the 2 channel audio).

If the movies foreign then leave in only one of the foreign languages and only the English subtitles.

Personally I'd just buy a dual layer dvd for those movies that are ever so slightly too big. I did put a 2 sided dvd disk onto one single layer DVD.

The movie was goodfellas, it was probably one of the only "flipper" dvd disks out there. You had to flip the disk over at one point in the movie to finish watching lol so I just ripped out everything but the movie and compressed it a wee bit.

If you are going to compress, do the deep analysis.. it helps with pixelation a a lot.

Deep analysis reduces pixelation, but not 100%.

Try for yourself, backup a movie that requires over 70% compression (on the movie itself) with and without it. The results will be the best for someone like you, who has an HD set which will show the flaws better.

I have no idea what movies needed such a compression and considering I no longer have the originals (;)), I'll take your word for it; all future downloads will be with deep analysis.

Downloads are pointless to use deep analysis with, unless for some reason the disk was dumped and not compressed at all. In that case you'd be wasting your time.

Only use it on movies like Pirates of The Caribbean 2 where the main movie itself takes up more then 4.32 GB. Or if your a person who only does full disk backups and wont just rip the main movie, use deep analysis to reduce pixeling

? I dont remember pirates 2 being very difficult to copy?

It wasn't really, if you use anyDVD. It wouldn't copy at all with just shrink. I ripped it with Decrypter before I took it back and after I got anyDVD it loaded up fine in shrink and make a good backup.

well that movie was impossible to copy just cuz it was too big, if i had i could burn dual layer 8 gb dvds then it would have been just fine, no protection at all

btw theres this program called RipIt4Me and it works with Shink and Decrypter and its pure brilliance, i ran into trying to copy that movie but still it wouldnt work but ive used it on other problematic dvds and its worked great
