Serial ATA versions?

i just got a WD 160GB 8MB cache 150MB/s SATA on sale for $50 and... ionno the plan is so i dont need to hastily choose a non-on sale one when i get a new computer. and if i got it at that time it woulda prolly been an 80GB anyway...

so.. how many versions of serial ata are there? did i choose the right one to be future proof?

oh and i see a jumper setting is "Spread Spectrum Clocking"

I don't know much about the SATA drives, only that they are much faster than EIDE drives. Almost compairable to SCSI drives. You also need a SATA power plug off your PS, kinda looks like a little black plug on the same lines as the 4 pin plugs for other hardware.

my drive has both SATA and legacy power connectors... arent there mobos that provide the power?

Being like most other drives, it would get its power from the PS, not the motherboard.

*sigh* why the hell did WD come with a connector that covered both the SATA power and data yet ONLY have the data part of it?? theyre basicly forcing u to use legacy power??

do you have a link to such a converter? So we can look at it. Just because I nevere heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exsist.
