Help me I am in Hell (mouseflastion)
You know when your mouse kind of uh.. stops moving in one particular direction, and is extremely unreliable when moving anywhere steadily? I call it Mouseflastion, and it's been pissing me off lately. What are some cures that anybody would recommend? I've tried taking the little ball out, and blowing the inside as hard as I can, but this doesn't really work. Any other suggestions? Should I just give up and invest in a laser mouse?
I would strongly recomend getting a laser mouse.
BUT....
if ya really don't want to then what you need to do is take that ball out again and re-blow it out. Now what you need to do is look inside where the ball was. You should see something like 2 black cylenders and a white ring. All 3 will spin. These are what the ball turn on and it is what makes the mouse pointer move on your screen. They tend to get grime on them that will not blow off. take a damp cloth, you don't want to leave any moisture behind, and clean them roolers. Then dry them off. Now clean, with soap and water, the ball and make sure that is dry. You want to try and NOT touch the ball at all because the oil from your skin will cause problems. Put the ball back in and your good to go. It's good to do this about once per week for maintinance. Of corse if ya had a laser mouse you wouldn't have to do it at all.

This is only my opinion, I could be wrong.

you all are talking about the MX1000 and equivalents when u say "laser mouse" right..?!
dont listen to directive about cleaning ^^ just pick off the clumps on the rollers with ur nail and rub dirt/dust off the ball with ur fingers :] sure it may cause some problems i never noticed, but if the problems are that small who the fuck cares?
and no, blowing doesnt work. XD

For computers, buying cheaply and often will only leave you constantly in a world of shit.
Thanks, directive. I tried giving it another blow job and then proceeding to clean it out with some damp wipes, and it's working a little better now. While I was cleaning it, though, I noticed the third cyllinder that was backed up by a spring. Could that be part of the problem? It seems kind of possible.
I just checked some websites to get a general idea of how much I should expect to pay for these laser models, and I would never have guessed that I could find one within the $10 range. It also happens that I have an online-only Wal Mart gift card that's been collecting dust..

the springed roller should be the white one, and i believe is just to maintain ball position. the other two rollers are what matters.. so if that white one is seemingly able to push the ball away from itself slightly it should be fine.
there is no such thing as a $10, $20, or $30 laser mouse!
