why the hell do some AC outlets have the thing where one pin can be wider than the other, and the plug must be plugged in that way? isnt AC like.. positive and negative switching back and for like 60 times a second or something? why would direction matter??

The "wider" one is designed for 220 power plugs... look at a 220 male end and look at a 110 male end.... the 220 end is different and can only be pluged in one way. However the one end of a 110 sometimes has a slightly wider prong that servers a grounding purpose.

if ur talking about that plug that has one of the flat ones going perpendicular to the other flat one, thats not what im talking about, its just the normal 110 with one flat one bulbing out at the end. and why would it be for grounding? what happened to the round one on the "bottom" then?

why is one wider.

It's for polarity. You might want to look that word up.
Of course, if you had bothered to look at the URl for the pic you posted, you'd have seen "icon-2/polarized%20outlets.gif"
Take me across the water, cuz I need someplace to hide.

last time i checked, positive and negative were the "poles" and it wouldnt matter which way you plug it in.
