i figured since treebranch.jpg was originally 5.71MB, it couldnt hurt to resize it

Shit is deffinately up, my camera REFUSES to take pics over 3.0 MB and its higher res then your WTF. HOWD YOU GET A 5.7

its the nature of the photo, u can see how theres a lot of changes in the pic.. makes it hard for jpg to do its compression

your camera may do immediate compression on the jpgs to save space, which would explain why it cant take pictures as fast. mine are like bmps in the name of a jpg
