From 40 degrees C to 36 degrees C

#1 Post by 2005 » Sun Feb 05, 2006 12:12 pm

Well today I finally got unlazy and applied that thermal compound to the cpu. It was dirty as fuck lol the old thermal pad they had on their dried up and formed clumps. Cleaned it off with a lil 91% Isypropyl Alcohol and then cleaned off the underside of the heatsink. Cleaned the dust out of the heat sink , placed a small drop of the compound onto the center of the CPU and re fastened the heatsink. It used to idel at 104 F and now idels at 96.8 F... I guess not that big of a difference, but it cant hurt.

Both the heat sink and the CPU. Its harmless and as it was such a high percentage it evaporated very quickly. Cleans old thermal grease/pads off very thoroguly and quickly. Just a small dab in the center is enough as the suction like feeling that the processor top gets from the HS will spread the grease out

If you have a high concentration of iso alcohol is about the best to use. I just took a Q-tip and dabbed it into some alcohol and rubbed it back and forth across the surfaces until they were clean, took like 6 q tips though.

I've never heard one report of anyone messin up a ISH or HSF with iso alcohol on THG fourms. Alot of the long term resident members recommend it be done this way. Now soaking it in the alcohol for like 2 hours might be a bad idea but whatever floats your boat.

I clean my shit off with alcohol too. Didn't know anyone else did. I use 70% though, just because that happens to be what I always end up having.
Here to impress.
