Choosing HDTV
well i dunno about you guys.. but this is what i have in mind right now:
Sony 60" XBR LCD for $4500
or
Samsung 61" 6168 DLP for $2400 + some lag
lol i SERIOUSLY dont know.. the lag problem is.. a big deal to me... i did see the 6168 at bestbuy and it looked sweet, in the room they had it lined up from smallest to biggest and it was on the end of the big.. so good for it and me i guess, they didnt play any audio with the video so i have no idea about the lag other than forum posts
side thought: is my new PC gonna be able to handle Half-Life2 in 1920x1080

For computers, buying cheaply and often will only leave you constantly in a world of shit.

Do some research on HDTV in general and the pro's/con's of each screen type.
IE
CRT
LCD
Plasma
Front, Rear Projectin (you do NOT want TV's that require an external projector)
Then factor in price and screen size.... then do a price/quality ratio. Thats how I would choose.

Those are good reads... do that and research the particular models your looking at and then you get your answer.
On a side note, you spoiled rich fuck, how the hell are you getting 4.5k for a TV
EDIT:
Oh and your compy should do fine putting HL2 out at 1920x1080... if you dont mind no AA/AF and frame rates under 30
EDIT FOR THE EDIT:
Just messin lol... you should be able to play a playable framerates with moderate eye candie.

um actually your first EDIT is more accurate, probably very accurate. i doubt the fps will be anywhere near playable at 1920x1080 but the reality is its not playable at all. why? the HL2 video settings doesnt allow it XD, its highest is like some 1600x900 or something, meaning im probably going to play at 1280x720 to make sure the TV can support it. that res should be perfectly fine :]
thanks for the links, ill read them now

no the Samsung 6168 1080p is $2800 tax and shipping included lol... and it wasnt really my choice, i was perfectly happy with a $1600 Sharp 56DR650 720p (before i saw it in real life) we went to frys and we both saw it in action, my dad was the one who said "back to the drawing board" when we walked away. i didnt like the image either, even if they split the signal like 30 times it still looked way too shitty, and with a 2000:1 contrast ratio it was pretty dim. the samsung is 10000:1 and it looked sweet when we saw it in bestbuy

Well that TV does look wrather nice... but is it like very noticable anoying lag or is it one of those I have a ton of cash and have to make shit up and this TV has a lag of .0000001 ms every 30 days???
Some people are really gay about what they consider "lag". In COD this noob with a ping of 25 is like spazzing out because he usually gets 15... who the fuck cares. I was owning his ass with a ping of 80
