D-Link DGL-4100 Gigabit Router

#1 Post by palmboy5 » Sun Mar 05, 2006 5:32 pm

lol i got one for $70... reason being, with my downloading with both DC++ and Bittorrent, my ping would usually hit beyond 2000ms, and 60% of the time the connection attempt with sites will time out, AIM gets kicked off, and the router crashes, seriously crashes. not good. i asked a few months ago on dslreports.com for an internet priority program to lower DC++ and BT priorities and they said my router was simply too old. it could not "handle all the connections of a P2P program" i ask them what new routers can handle them and they cant say shit  no router has anything saying how many connections it can handle, so im like screwed over here... the only way i could be absolutely sure the new router wasnt just like my BEFSR41, was to go up to gigabit choices, and chose d-link's gaminglounge, it has built-in prioritization, just like what i initially asked for, so it was the perfect choice! horray.. i was running DC++ and Azureus and my ping in CS:S was a typical 38ms for that server! nutty.

i highly doubted that it could work but.. holy shit, it did

Never had an issue with downloading and bad ping. Your orignal router must have been crappy.

i didnt have an issue back when i used n00b programs like kazaa and limewire, and i didnt get problems with DC++ until i became "1337", meaning i was able to connect to the good servers after achieving 90GB+ share, this resulted in a lot more connections... probably more than you had

My previous router couldn't handle my P2P activities. Along with 2000ms+ lag, connection time outs, and AIM getting kicked off, running Azureus and DC++ at the same time commonly caused the router to crash. This is where every computer is kicked off the network and the router looses its ability to assign DHCP. The fix was to reflash the firmware, but that itself is unsafe and NONE of this should have happened in the first place; it had to go. (that piece of shit...)
