VPU Recover

#1 Post by mannyace » Fri Jun 22, 2007 1:17 pm

ok dont kno if this is software or hardware related, or both, whatever tho...

first the computer will freeze, so everything is still, can't move the mouse, can't do anything, then both screens go black and then they come back to windows and everything is fine... except for the error message

"VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands"

this has happened a few times, just now when i was watchin a youtube video, its also happened when ive been watching a dvd

anybody kno anything, im bout to go google it but if u kno anythin let me kno...

The graphics card is probably getting too hot, try blowing all the dust off of the card.
For computers, buying cheaply and often will only leave you constantly in a world of shit.

Whens the last time you did a catalyst update?

Chances are your 10+ catalyst updates behind and while that isn't good it probably isn't the problem either. The problem probably is that your card is over heating, blow the dust off and if you feel brave enough remove all the heatsinks and apply new thermal compound.

if that doesnt work... is it just a dying video card that needs replacing? its only a few years old...

and some updates, i can't watch dvds cuz the screen starts bugging out and going into google earth makes the computer freeze up completely

ive never upgraded BIOS before but other than that ive done everything

the VPU error seems less frequent but its still around, sometimes it just completely restarts and now i somtimes see random pixels

and sometimes random horizontal lines/blocks when i switch ff tabs

i guess i should start lookin for a new card?

You can get a 8600GT pretty cheap, much more powerful then a X600 but it depends on how much you have/want to spend. You can get a replacement for $50 but don't expect to game on it.

Get a replacement for $50 and expect to game just as well or better on it as you do with the X600. It looks pretty fucked to me.
