How are you liking the matured Vista + facelift OS so far? Be sure to look up the changes (added features) in Windows 7 so you can take advantage of them.

I just got finished reinstalling everything I need thus far. Windows 7 itself is pretty awesome thus far. I like the look, both style and clarity, of even the default desktop wallpaper. I only have one problem, My printer manufacturer has yet to put any windows 7 drivers out yet for my network printer. Now my wife and I have to share a USB cord until they do. I do plan on looking at the added features.

Vista drivers should work in Windows 7. If you can't find a Windows 7 driver for something, just try the Vista equivalent. 32bit vs 64bit must match.

EDIT:
Although if the manufacturer specifically says there isn't a driver for Windows 7, then... maybe there isn't.

I looked it up, interesting, that would be like the third instance of something compatible with Vista not being compatible with Windows 7 that I've seen.

I already tried that and the HP program for Vista x64 would not run on this. BUT.... Just for kicks I went into the printer folder and clicked add printer. I chose a network printer and the IP address my printer is on showed up on the list. I clicked it and it installed fine. Now we can print from the network. The only thing I am lacking is the HP solution center, but I can wait on that. Now I haven't tried to scan anything yet...

Almost all of the vista drivers work on windows 7... like palm said I've ran into like 2 things that didnt work

Yea, almost all but not this. They did put out the solution center for windows 7 x64 about a month ago. works great.

Flash drive installation ftw

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installation, Expanding part, on Kentsfield-1 with

Patriot Dash 8GB:
5 minutes 22 seconds

DVD:
12 minutes, 33 seconds

sweet, I didn't know you can boot from a flash drive. faster is better provided no glitching.

He's not booting from a flash drive... rather installing windows 7 from a flash drive. Essentially he's taking the windows 7 installation files, packing them on a flash drive and then using that instead of a DVD to install a fresh copy of Win 7 onto his hard drive.

Optical media and their "coasters" are far more likely to have glitches than a flash drive so yeah its faster and safer.
