Sucks about the SSD.

I just finally reformatted and put 64bit 7 back on! Finally able to use that dormant 2GB of ram that's been sleeping for almost a year.

:] Then you can add 10 more GB! hehe.

I found out why the SSD burned (and subsequently, the WD 320GB I have as well)... I had taken a molex cable and swapped the 5V and 12V wires so that the fans could get 5V, and forgot. Those drives must have totally enjoyed the overvoltage T__T

Oh wow! You wanted them to be quieter?

I'm going to install the 64 bit consumer preview of windows 8... see what all the buzz is about.

As far as I'm concerned it's not much more then a change to incorporate the insanely hot world of "apps" and the not so impressive touch screen capabilities.

I'm just not nuts over touch screens. I'm really not.

Yeah I don't think i have a single fan being given its natural input voltage. I'm going to redo the cable, this time NOT connecting the 12V wire at all - that was such a stupid idea.

Windows 8 was nothing appealing, but I did like the new file copy dialog and task manager!

Upgraded SSD from 128GB to 250GB and RAM has been 24GB instead of 16GB for a few months. Sig updated. :)

The Samsung 840 EVO has a neat RAM cache feature which (artificially) inflates performance.

Still running with the computer from my signature.... I think in July it will be four years old. It doesn't FEEL four years old though...

Maybe it's because I rarely if ever play games on it, but even if I do it still doesn't feel too bad. I don't think I'll be upgrading it any
time soon. Not until I feel like it's degraded enough in performance to do so.

I don't feel like building a new computer either.
Intel has been focusing on improving their integrated GPU performance, which is great for non-gamers I suppose. But as a result, Haswell is only like 15% faster than my two-generation-old CPU... certainly not worth the cost of a new CPU and motherboard.
