well everything sells high in the beginning.. mostly for those companies that buy them in the masses for their equiptment.

A64 3000+ (best bang for buck in A64 section)
Bartlon 2500+ (best bang for buck otherwise)

ok. So which one for building a computer just for ripping/burning/copying DVDs & CDs? Would get OS to match. (i.e. for a 64-bit get Win 64-bit ed, 32-bit...)

Shit dawg if thats all you want to do with it.... just get a Intel P4 2.8Ghz with HT and get your self the new Pioneer DVR-108 or NEC ND 3500a, both drives are 16x DVD +/- R Burners and 4X DVD +/- RW burners and 4X DVD + DL burners... the nec is a little faster at burning cds at 48x but its dvd burning is slower and a little less in quality. Go for the pioneer if you can and just make sure you have at least 512 MB of ram and atleast 120 GB hdd. You could easily get a pc like that for under 800 bucks.

Yeah, do what 2000 said.

Anyways, you can use the A64 3000+ with Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit. It's backward compatible.

Yeah I know it is, but I'd rather have a 64-bit OS for a 64-bit processor... Although I guess I could wait until more programs are made for it.

Fast drives, but can you find DVD media that supports those write speeds?

I'd get at least 1GB of RAM, and and should I just get a reg. processors or one with a large cache?

Going to get a bit off topic of AMD processors here, but...

What kinda ram should I use? RDRAM (PC800, 1066), DDR (PC3200, 3700, 4000, 4400), DDR2 (PC5400)?

IF I use DDR, I'll buy OC'ed low lat. ram for gaming, because I may upgrade the computer after a while for gaming.
