Spyware/Adware Removal & What's up with this???

#1 Post by Antix » Tue Sep 07, 2004 3:51 pm

S & A Removal

Do be careful getting files from AIMFilez.com. Some files I ran installed spyware/adware I believe. I didn't have any problems until I ran those files. Can anyone tell me how to fix this one? (Most recent) This has come up at multiple sites. It came up on one AIM site I tried to load, somewhere at newgrounds too (I think), and a few others I don't remember.

Nevermind I fixed it... all you have to do is scroll to the bottom of the page, download a app. that says 'remove' or something like that and run it then it automatically removes it. I would have deleted this part, but figured I'd leave it for an FYI, incase anyone else happens to get it... I do have a lot of other stuff still on here though. I need to run NAV again so I can find the rest.

Here's the what's up with this:
Here's a screen shot of windows explorer. Half of these programs aren't even installed on my computer. They were installed on my old 30 GB hard drive which is now my slave drive, with no OS, that has been reformated to NTFS from FAT32, and has been defragmented several times since I installed my new 120 GB hard drive as my primary drive. The old hard drive had a lot of stuff installed on it when it was drive letter 'C', but now it's 'D' and my 120 GB hard drive is 'C' so since 'C' is a completely new drive that had nothing on it, it isn't possible for that stuff to be on drive 'C'. When you first boot windows with a no OS drive it will say just that, no OS... So I don't know what's goin' on with this thing. Got any ideas?

You're kidding, right? You think AIM let some nasty crap onto your computer??? Don't you guys know anything about IM? You use that shit, you are just a spyware and virus gateway. AOL's default setting allows every cookie you might encounter. And before you say you're not using AOL, think again.

I suggest you go here and use the software at least once a week: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Take me across the water, cuz I need someplace to hide.
Well I done the rancher's daughter and I sure did hurt his pride.

Ignore everything everyone said except palm. Your supposed to choose NOT to install that Weather Bug crap, if you uncheck all 3 of those spyware thingies, AIM won't install that crap. It actually gives you a choice. It's your fault for being ignorant.

I have stuff to block cookies. And it wasn't "AIM" it was add-ons/plug-ins for AIM from AIMFilez.com. Last virus I got was a long time ago because I was usin' NAV 2000 that wasn't updated.

Such as WeatherBug, WildTangent, and stuff?

I didn't choose to install WeatherBug, I made sure it was unchecked, and it's still there (Folder AWS). And the three options I remember seeing were desktop icon, quick launch icon, and whether or not to install weatherbug. There for I wasn't being ignorant!

Already knew about SpyBot: S&D, but I thought that was the program I heard someone say selects files that aren't always spyware/adware and auto-deletes them... not for sure though. I'll still check it out. BTW, what about Hijack This, Ad-Subtract Pro, Adware Pro?
