CPU fan and heat sink

#1 Post by 2005 » Sat Jan 08, 2005 2:33 am

Do you need both of these, i dont want to sound to stupid if that ship hasent already set sail. I mean i was looking at some barebone kits and wanted to konw what else i would need.

All/Most come with cpu/mobo, ram, case, keyboard, speakers, and cpu fan.

It isnt really clear to me if a cpu fan is the same thing as a heat sink and if youd still nead thermal gel with it... what do you do with the thermal gel, spead it over the heatsink??? Does it go on the CPU fan too if its not the same thing as a heatsink.

Also once dragon said something about not bottlenecking your system... he also explained something like to keep everything 1:1, ( I HAVE NO IDEA WTF THAT MEANS ANYMORE) so re explain please.

LOL kk
dunno how u can ever be clear on just how much they come with... cant help there

thermal gel, the thing u put on the CORE of the CPU.. like this:

except some say thats too much too so put less, "paperthin". do NOT put that shit between the fan and the heatsink ROFL!

ummm not bottlenecking calls for knowing what is avaliable and how they rank with each other... like like like if the FX-53 is rank 2, get a video card ranked 2 XD
For computers, buying cheaply and often will only leave you constantly in a world of shit.

so which is the thermal gel... the lightbrown shit on the tiny silver square or the darker orange/brown stuff all over the place...

So does it go like this, mobo.. cpu.. thermal gel, heatsink and then the cpu fan???
