I've heard single core's are teh suck for multi taksing. That and I've also heard that in most cases the 7800GT is held back by the CPU so yea.
I dont want to have to make upgrades to this setup every 6 months for 3 years. I would like to only have to upgrade the video card in like a year and a half to 2 years at the least.

LOL, no. shit. dawg.
upgrade to SLI?
EDIT:
oh.. yes, thats right, non-SLI board.
lol come to think of it, i think SLIs been out long enough to determine which is cheaper for the performance increase, buying another identical current card, or buy one new card?

Its way more benifitial to buy one new card then to buy another and SLI them. Not even considering the fact that you now restrict airflow.... consume more power, and increase case temp.
Think of it like this... which is a better price/performance ratio
2x6800GT Ultras in SLI
or
1 7800GT

lol.. i see.. ^^ the 6800 GTs are not being made anymore but they sure as hell wouldnt be <$150
hey look i can run FEAR with 2X AA, 4X AF, Max settings, Softshadows with an acceptable fps of 59

2005 look the 6800GTs pull pretty far ahead in these games (several fps)

It gets about 6 FPS more in F.E.A.R at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF max quality. Now consider thats 512MB memory and 32 pipes working aginst 256MB memory and 20 pipes.
Then factor in price, you can get a 7800GT for about 275-295$. The average price of a 6800GT is about 250$... makeing the SLI setup over 500$
And thats not even the ultra version....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814121192
So its not worth it at all... considering for like an extra 50$ you could get 2 7800GTs and SLI them. But even that isnt worth it... newer single cards are the best bang for your buck.

LOL! FEAR. GOT. FUCKING. OWNED.
i like how they put my card in there too >< ew it got owned.
anyway FEAR needs 2GB RAM to be able to smoothly go to different rooms without a couple second lag (at higher res). this will only become more apparent with more and more games coming out with this level of detail. you're going to need 2GB before an "upgrade time" is in consideration

LOL LOL LOL, first, ncix is in US now. second, shitty AGP shit is more expensive than the 7800GT

Well for dragon, thats the best upgrade he can do (unless he doesnt have 2GB ram). Even though AGP = shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty shitty.
The PCI-E version is noticably cheaper but he has no PCI-E mobo.
And that quad card would probably cost 1000$... waste IMO big time waste.
The other GB of ram will follow later this year, but dont think its worth it right now. I will probably never play at 1600x1200... 1240x1024 is probably the most Ill ever go so lag shouldnt be that bad.

Not true dog... I happend to be friends with 8 of the top 10 kids out of my grade. None of them ever cracked a book and never got lower then 90%. My main deal was I didnt do homework... If I had my grades could have been nearly what theirs were. I did manage to get an 1100 on my SAT when it was out of 1600. At 1260 or so you start getting offers from BIG schools. Oh and when I took my SAT I had only 4 hours sleep.
