new vid card

#1 Post by mannyace » Sun Jul 01, 2007 10:07 pm

ok so i need to get a new card and im asking u all to recommend me some (in addition/alternatives to 2005 tellin me to get a 8600GT)

it has to have at least 256mb mem on it and i want it to be a card that does not run unusually hot cuz thats an issue for my comp

also im a light gamer, i dont need to be blown away but i do want the few games i (rarely) play to be able to function

and as for the chipset i think i hate ATI now so it should be nvidia, as for the maker of the actual card does it have to be nvidia or does that even matter?

EDIT - forgot to say that im lookin to spend $75-100 and whatever card it is im not gonna do anythin to it, just want it to be the way it is out of the box

The 7800GT would also be suitable as a replacement... but the 8600GT is about $120 new and about as good as your getting without spending another $150 on top of that.

...PCI-E..?
For computers, buying cheaply and often will only leave you constantly in a world of shit.

7600GS looks to be the best card at the top of your price range.

7600GS vs 8600GT

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php ... &card2=513

Price on 8600GT = 99 after MIR

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... C8Junction

Price difference is marginal and the 8600GT OMGWTFPWNS the 7600GS.

8600GT:

Pixel shader 4
Direct X 10
Open GL 2.1
Double the memory bandwidth
Basically double the performance of every other things

7600 GS

Pixel Shader 3
Direct X 9.0c
Peice of monkey shit

of the two, is either of them cooler, or i should probably say less hot lol

i wont be doing anything to the card, no adding whatever gel stuff, i dont care about overclocking it, it can be noisy as shit if it wants to... i just want it to work
