.gif vs .jpg

#1 Post by Guest » Sun Jul 25, 2004 2:46 pm

What is the difference? This is what I did:

1. Create an image in Photoshop
2. Save it as a .psd
3. Save it as a .jpg
4. Save it as a .gif
5. Compared the jpg vs gif (quality)
6. [ Quality turned out to be the exact same ] Then I compared the size. The gif was 4.68 kB and the jpg was 30+.

Explain this to me dawgs.

.gif is only good for animations, or letters/words.

.jpg is definitally the way to go if you want to save a high quality image.

Move both of them to a low quality (like from 5 - 7) and compare them... the .jpg will probably be much better.

gif is true...and jpg is not, its not high quality, unless you mean relative to size....png, and other things are better quality

.bmp is PERFECT ^^

gif only supports 256 colors, you can choose which ones but still only 256
